Kids of the Northwest – A Charity Book Program to Benefit Compassion International

We are so excited to announce a new charity book program featuring the Kids of the Northwest! Over the next few weeks, we will be photographing children and teens from around the Northwest to be featured in a fine-art, limited edition coffee table book. Proceeds from the registration fees and book sales will be donated to Compassion International, to support their programs to meet the critical needs of children in poverty around the world.

For just $75 per family, Lorraine Marie Photography will provide a professional photo session for your child (or children) in the Seattle region, and your child will be featured in this fine-art book. Our sessions will be geared about each individual child’s interests. We’re so excited about the possibilities this creates! Seattle Teen Portraits ~ Vintage Photo Shoot by Lorraine Marie Photography

There is an unspoken myth that swirls around the Seattle area in winter – that it is too cold, too gray, and too wet to venture out for outdoor location portrait sessions. Well, I am here to de-bunk that myth! Take this session with Sarah, for example. Sarah volunteered to be my model as we wanted to showcase a new style of photography we’re introducing for kids and teens. Not the cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill type of photographs, but stylized sessions with a purpose and a theme. How fun is that?

For Sarah, we wanted to introduce a vintage theme, so we went out to one of our favorite locations, Discovery Park, and brought with us vintage props (yay for old cameras that we’ve been collecting!), headbands found on Etsy, bracelets from Forever 21 and Sarah’s own awesome flowered shirt that fit the theme so well. Everything tied together so beautifully and we are incredibly happy with the results. Thanks, Sarah, for kicking us off in style!

I‘ll be the first to admit that “beach weather” isn’t exactly synonymous with “Seattle weather.” Still, there are some gorgeous rock beaches and lighthouses to be found in the Seattle area, like the West Point Lighthouse by Discovery Park. I love the fields and fallen logs here—they provide such a natural and beautiful backdrop for Nikki’s senior shots! My favorite photo is the last one of this series, where Nikki is looking into the distance. It’s a very compelling shot, and shows off her superb modeling skills as well. ~Ashley

Heart of Seattle. ~Family Portrait Session on Location in Seattle

There’s nothing sweeter than photographing a family session, especially when they make it look this fun! I love the photos of the sisters laughing together, from the fields in Discovery Park to the streets in downtown Seattle. My favorite shot is the last one, with all the girls of the family coaxing a smile out of their dad. The natural ease and joy they show is infectious even through the photos themselves! ~Ashley

One of my favorite spots in Duvall is Taylor Park, where a huge boulder rests in the middle of the woods (keep an eye out for it in the photos below!). Here, I love the photo of Michael standing in the pathway. He has a great smile, and the backdrop is picture-perfect… you can even see a hint of autumn in the trees! ~Ashley

There’s such a serenity about Discovery Park, with its rolling hills and country-style houses. My favorite shot here is of Riley looking into the distance–I love her relaxed and confident look. For Troy’s senior session, we spent the day walking around downtown Bellevue. Bellevue Park is a great space for photoshoots with its wide fields, fountains, and scenic walkways. A senior favorite year-round, we had Kyle’s photoshoot by the Experience Music Project in downtown Seattle. I love the shot of him jumping in front of the building–it captures a lot of personality and shows off the fun shapes in the background, too. My favorite photo, however, is the last one. It’s a twist on the classic “pose with your favorite instrument/sports object/prop” photo and still manages to highlight his passion for baseball. ~Ashley

One of my favorite things about senior photoshoots is learning what hidden talents and gifts each person brings to the table. As Lorraine will tell you, I also saw Aliya for the first time when she was performing in a Christian band called Step of Faith. I love the shot of Aliya playing her guitar in Post Alley–not only is it a beautiful photo, but it showcases her ongoing love and talent for music as well. ~Ashley

From the photographer…”I first met Aliya a few years ago, when she was just starting a musical group called “Step of Faith”, and I was hired to photograph them for their first CD. What impressed me then, and impresses me still, is Aliya’s incredible musical talent as well as her artistic sense of style. I know that she has an incredible future ahead of her that absolutely involves music in everything she will do. It’s what motivates her, what fills her thoughts, and I’ve never met anyone so focused with the talent to back it up. We photographed Aliya at Pike’s Place Market, which was the perfect backdrop to give the urban vibe she wanted. While we were taking her photos at the park, two homeless women passed by and noticed Aliya’s guitar next to her. They asked for her to sing them a song, and although it was an awkward request, Aliya did as they asked. It was beautiful, and showed not just the talent she carries, but the beauty that is also within.” ~Lorraine Marie

As always, Golden Gardens provides so many great backdrops, from the grove of trees to the beautiful views of the Puget Sound. I love the first photo, where Madeleline pulls off a playful yet elegant pose. Her photos are so natural and spontaneous–nothing looks forced or posed here, just full of life! ~Ashley

Maggie just lights up these photos! She has such a sweet smile and a great sense of style — it really makes her stand out against the serene, muted backdrop of Discovery Park. The first photo here has to be my favorite… on the pathway to the lighthouse, there’s nothing more peaceful, and Maggie looks so poised and happy, too! ~Ashley

From the photographer...”Maggie is one of those people that you immediately connect with when you first meet her… so genuine, happy, and interested in those around her. It wasn’t hard at all to capture her in a way that was authentic, natural and compelling — the types of images I’m always looking to create within each of our senior photo sessions. I thought it was great that Maggie had such a sense of her own personal style that she made sure she had glasses frames with her at her photo shoot — even though her own glasses were on order, and these were just a pair of frames without the lenses that looked like the pair she was used to wearing. It made photographing her so easy, as I didn’t have to worry about glare from her glasses and could concentrate instead on placing her in great light to accentuate her beautiful eyes. ” ~Lorraine Marie
